Living expenses and work limitations

The average international student in Australia spends about $400 per week on accommodation, food, clothing, transport, entertainment, internet and telephone costs. While this is a guide, living costs in Australia will ultimately depend on your own lifestyle and will vary by location. When you are structuring your finances, you also need to take into account your costs with tuition fees, health insurance and incidental costs. Please refer to the official Australian government website for an estimative of living costs.

You need to make sure you have enough funds to support yourself when you first arrive. We recommend that you have approximately $2000 (Australian dollars) available for the first three weeks to pay for temporary accomodation and transport.

Under the conditions of an Australian Student Visa, you may work up to 40 hours every fortnight. Additionally, during holiday periods, you are allowed to work unlimited hours per week.
