Axial Training offers the option to specialise in four different streams:

  • Maintenance - Fitting and / or Turning
  • Maintenance - Diesel Fitting
  • Machining
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

This course will qualify you as an Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical. You will gain skills in design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of all mechanical equipment, machinery, fluid power systems, stationary and mobile equipment, instruments, refrigeration, and the use of computer controlled machine tools. The units studied will vary depending on the specialist stream selected.

As well as acquiring trade skills, you will develop a sound knowledge of workplace communication, occupational health and safety, quality procedures, systems and planning, engineering measurements, computations and computer technology.

Who is this course designed for?

This course has been developed for those currently employed as mechanical fitters and machinists in the metal manufacturing, engineering and related industries.

Delivery Mode

The Certificate III apprenticeship is delivered over a nominal term of 48 months, with assessment conducted on the job by an Axial trainer on a regular and agreed schedule.

Assessment Requirements

Assessment will consist of individual or clustered competencies in a single visit, whereby the student will display their theoretical and practical ability to a standard where the trainer can deem them competent.

Career Pathways

With your trade qualification in hand, you could work as a maintenance fitter, tool maker or machinist for a wide range of companies across Australia in interesting locations and work environments.

Employment opportunities vary from being part of a team for a large company to working for a small engineering workshop that undertakes different types of work for industrial customers.

You could also work 'on-site' in various locations such as shipbuilding yards, large building construction sites or mines in remote locations.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is ideal for people with or without any formal qualifications, but with experience gained through various work or life situations. No matter, how, when or where you acquired your skills, you can still receive a full or partial qualification leading to a higher competency.
