2027 VET Opportunities for Queensland Schools: Real Skills, Brighter Futures

Axial Training is preparing new and updated VET opportunities across resources and infrastructure, automotive electrical systems and tourism—helping students explore industries, develop practical skills and consider future career pathways.

As we look towards the end of 2026, we are also celebrating our students’ achievements and the school partnerships that make meaningful vocational learning possible.

At a glance: Axial’s 2027 school communication introduces opportunities in resources and infrastructure, automotive electrical systems and tourism. Schools can speak with Janene Mahon to confirm program details, suitability, availability and delivery arrangements.

Practical learning. Future pathways.

What Is VET in Schools?

Vocational Education and Training in Schools, commonly called VET in Schools or VETiS, allows students to develop vocational knowledge and practical skills while completing their secondary education.

For students considering further study, a trade or entry into the workforce, vocational learning provides another way to explore their interests and prepare for life after school.

Axial Training offers vocational education options for students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Its school programs include funded and fee-for-service options, with training plans and learning pathways developed in consultation with schools. Funding eligibility and course conditions apply.

The aim is not to make every student choose a career immediately. It is to help them make more informed decisions by connecting learning with the industries and work environments they may want to explore.

Looking ahead to 2027

New and Updated VET Opportunities

Whether your school wants to broaden its VET options or strengthen existing pathways, these three learning areas provide a starting point for your 2027 planning conversation.

Learning area Opportunity focus Student interests
Resources and infrastructure Hands-on, industry-focused learning introducing the resources and infrastructure sector. Practical work, hands-on learning and industry environments.
Automotive electrical systems Exploring modern vehicle technology and developing practical automotive electrical skills. Vehicles, technology and how electrical systems work.
Tourism Practical learning in an industry centred on people, experiences and adventure. Travel, visitor experiences and people-focused work.

These descriptions reflect the learning areas announced in Axial’s school communication. Confirm final program titles, qualification details, availability and delivery arrangements with Axial before making subject-selection or enrolment decisions.

Resources and infrastructure

Explore Practical Industry Pathways

Resources and infrastructure offer students an opportunity to explore an industry through practical, industry-focused learning.

For schools, this learning area can broaden the conversation about vocational pathways beyond the options students may already know. It gives learners interested in hands-on work another area to consider as they plan their senior studies.

Axial’s current school programs page lists the Certificate II in Resources & Infrastructure Work Preparation. Schools interested in the 2027 opportunity should ask how it relates to the existing offering and confirm the proposed delivery arrangements.

Useful questions to discuss with Axial include:

  • Which student year levels is the program suitable for?
  • What practical activities are included?
  • What facilities or resources will the school need?
  • What qualification or outcome will students work towards?
  • What funding and fee arrangements apply?

Automotive electrical systems

Discover the Technology Behind Modern Vehicles

Modern vehicles provide a compelling starting point for students interested in both automotive work and technology.

Axial’s planned automotive electrical opportunity will introduce students to the technology behind modern vehicles and help them develop practical skills in automotive electrical systems.

This focus gives schools another way to engage learners who want to understand how vehicles work, rather than simply read about them.

For example, a student interested in cars and electrical technology could use this learning opportunity to explore whether an automotive-related pathway suits their interests.

Schools should confirm the qualification title, any entry requirements, practical learning arrangements and how this opportunity fits alongside other automotive programs.

Tourism

Connect Learning With People and Experiences

Tourism offers students a chance to explore an industry built around people, experiences and adventure.

Axial’s planned tourism opportunity focuses on practical skills and introducing students to this people-centred industry.

For schools seeking a broader mix of vocational learning areas, tourism provides a different point of interest alongside technical and trade-focused options. It may appeal to students who enjoy interacting with people and are curious about travel and visitor experiences.

Before adding the opportunity to your school’s offering, confirm the program outcomes, delivery format, assessment requirements and available places with Axial.

Celebrating our students

Recognising Our Students’ Achievements in 2026

Looking ahead to 2027 also means recognising the effort students have put into their learning throughout 2026.

From hands-on training to working towards and completing nationally recognised qualifications, Axial students have shown dedication to developing skills they can take beyond the classroom.

The upcoming End-of-Year Student Showcase will celebrate student achievements and share some of the stories behind their progress.

For school communities, those stories are an opportunity to recognise the different ways students grow through vocational learning: discovering an interest, gaining confidence, completing practical work or reaching an important study milestone.

Keep an eye out for further information about the showcase and the students whose journeys will be featured.

Together, we make a difference

Thank You to Our Queensland School Partners

Meaningful vocational opportunities depend on collaboration.

Axial’s school partners help connect students with learning that reflects their interests, goals and future plans. Their support allows vocational education to become part of a broader school pathway conversation.

Axial’s school programs are developed in consultation with schools, and its learning platforms allow teaching staff to access student progress information. This helps schools stay connected with students’ vocational learning.

To our school partners across Queensland: thank you for your commitment to your students and for being part of the Axial journey.

We look forward to continuing those relationships and welcoming new conversations about what is possible in 2027.

Your 2027 planning checklist

How to Plan Your School’s VET Offering

Start with your students, then work through the practical details. A conversation with Axial can help your school explore whether the new opportunities fit your cohort and how they could complement existing VET pathways.

Before finalising your school’s plans, consider:

  1. Student interests: Which learning areas are students asking about, and where would new options broaden their choices?
  2. Program suitability: Which year levels, entry requirements and learning needs should be considered?
  3. Delivery arrangements: How would training fit the school timetable, facilities and supervision arrangements?
  4. Qualification outcomes: What qualification, statement of attainment or other outcome is attached to each opportunity?
  5. Costs and funding: What fees, eligibility conditions and funded places apply?
  6. Pathway connections: How could the learning support a student’s next step into further training, an apprenticeship, a traineeship or work?
  7. Student support: How will progress be monitored, and what support arrangements are available?

For example, a school with students interested in both hands-on technical learning and people-focused industries could discuss all three learning areas with Axial. The next step would be to confirm which options are suitable and available, rather than assume they can all be delivered in the same way.
